Press Release: MOFA Released a Statement that Myanmar Strongly Protests Zaw Wai Soe’s Fabrication regarding the Internal Violence via a French State-Owned International News Television Network

(7-7-2021, Nay Pyi Taw)

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has learnt that Zaw Wai Soe, a member of the publicly declared terrorist group, the National Unity Government (NUG), had an interview with the France 24, a French state-owned international news television network on 1 July 2021. During the interview, he requested the international community to provide necessary assistance to the helpless people of Myanmar who are in need of assistance from possible channels they deem appropriate, as they have no other choice but to pursue a path of self-defence. He defended those committing terrorist acts by making such remarks and is trying to instigate further violence.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already conveyed its objection through diplomatic channel to the French side with regard to the holding of virtual meetings between members of terrorist group, the NUG, and some members of the National Assembly and some French Senators of the French Parliament on 24 June and 30 June 2021, respectively.

Myanmar steadfastly adheres to the position of condemning terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms and manifestations. Myanmar reaffirms its determination to take legal actions against those committing terrorist acts.

Therefore, Myanmar strongly protests the interview of Zaw Wai Soe using the France 24, a state-owned international news television network as a platform to further instigate internal violence and to fabricate and distort the true prevailing situation of the country.
