Myanmar Consulate General in Hong Kong hosts Myanmar New Year Ata Thingyan Festival.(30-4-2026, Hong Kong)

To welcome the New Year of 1388 ME, the Consulate General of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) hosted a reception for celebration of Myanmar New Year Ata Thingyan Festival on 26 April 2026 at Le Méridien Hotel, Cyberport in Hong Kong.
At the reception, H.E. Mr. Hua You, Deputy Commissioner from the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in Hong Kong SAR, H.E. Mr. CHAN Tsz-tat, Commissioner of Customs and Excise Department of Hong Kong SAR, Ms. Yandy Chan, Principal Assistant Secretary (Culture) of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR attended as the Guests of Honour. Also present were the Director of Protocol of Hong Kong SAR, the Consuls General and their family members, business community, Myanmar Community in Hong Kong, Myanmar students studying in Hong Kong, Chinese students majoring Myanmar Language from Guangxi University of Foreign Languages, and other invited guests.
The reception began with welcoming remarks by Myanmar Consul General Ms. Phoo Pwint Ko Ko, followed by a video presentation showcasing Myanmar’s traditional Thingyan festivities. The Consul General then demonstrated Myanmar’s cultural tradition by sprinkling Thingyan water to the guests with Padauk flower. Then, Myanmar renowned actor Paing Takhon greeted guests and posed for commemorative photos. Dance artists Celine Laurelle Tang and Alvin Wong from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts also performed a unique performance blending Myanmar traditional dance, Chinese classical dance, and contemporary choreography to symbolize Myanmar–Hong Kong friendship.
Later, the Consul General and members of the Consulate General of Myanmar demonstrated Myanmar’s cultural practices of applying Thanaka and preparing Mote Lone Yay Paw with guests joyfully participating in the activities.
