Consul-General U Ming Kyaw Linn of the Consulate-General of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar presented the Sixth Buddhist Council Edition of the 53 treatises of the Pali Canon (Tipitaka) in Pāli (Myanmar)/Roman script (40 volumes) to Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, which is a public university and located in Wat Suan Dok Temple in Chiang Mai City. The books were donated by the Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, with the aim of promoting the dissemination of Theravada Buddhism. The handover took place at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, Chiang Mai Campus, on 27 November 2025.
Eleven monks, including Associate Professor Dr. Phra Suthiwacharabundit, Head of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, Chiang Mai Campus, and the Head Abbot, Dr. Ashin Kondañña Mahathera, holder of the Aggamahāpaṇḍita and Aggamahāsaddhammajotikadhaja titles, along with the Dean, teachers and students from various faculties of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, staff members from the Myanmar Consulate-General, as well as distinguished guests from the Myanmar community in Chiang Mai, were present at the ceremony.
The Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University was established in 1887 and began offering classes in 1889. As it is the oldest Buddhist university in Thailand, offering Theravada Buddhist studies, the donation of the Sixth Buddhist Council edition of the 53 treatises of the Pali Canon (Tipitaka), in Pāli (Myanmar)/Roman script (40 volumes), will benefit not only the resident monks but also individuals studying Theravada Buddhism there.
