A seminar entitled, “ Preventing and Combating of Transnational Crimes and Online Scams” was held in hybrid format at the Lawkanat Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw on 25 August 2026.
The Seminar was attended by the Union Minister and Deputy Ministers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Permanent Secretary and senior officials from the Ministries of Home Affairs, Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Population and Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlment as well as Myanmar Ambassadors from ASEAN Member States. Furthermore, the seminar was also participated by foreign service personnel from various departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as diplomats from Myanmar Embassies/Missions and Consulate-General.
In his opening remarks, the Union Minister for Foreign Affairs stated that today’s seminar was organized to deepenunderstanding of foreign service personnel regarding national, regional and international cooperation in preventing and combating transnational crimes and online scams, as well as to effectively explain and inform the other countries about Myammar’s actions and implementation measures during diplomatic engagements. He further stated that the Governmet recognized these crimes as a national security threat and had taken effective measures to clear online scam centers through special operations. Furthermore, more than 72,000 foreign nationals from over 50 countries had been systemtically repatriated to their countries of origins, and the country would continue to actas a responsible nation through diplomatic cooperation.
During the Seminar, responsible officials from relevant ministries shared information on ongoing national policy and implementation processes, challenges, and future plans for the prevention of, protection against and combating of transnational crimes. Discussions also covered the repatriation and reintegration of foreign nationals and Myanmar nationals involved in online scams and human trafficking as well as the regional and international cooperation. The senior officials from the Ministries of Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs presented a summary of the key discussion points and outcomes of the Seminar.
The Seminar concluded with closing remarks by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, who highlighted that the seminar had further strengthened inter-ministerial cooperation and enhanced the capacity of foreign service personnel and diplomats to effectively present country’s positions and factual information on international arena/platforms. He also called for continued efforts to combat transnational crimes in the interests of the State and its people.
