The representative of Myanmar, Chargé d' Affaires/ Minister U Han Thein Kyaw, participated in the “46th Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) Board of Governors’ Meeting” which was held from 26 to 28 June 2025 at the International Culture Centre in Krakow, Poland.
The meeting was chaired by Ambassador H.E. Mr. Ioannis Argyropoulos of European Union and attended by ASEF Governors, representatives and officials from the ASEF Executive Office including senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, incumbent Executive Director of ASEF, Ambassador H.E. Beata Stoczynska of Poland, Deputy Executive Director Mr. Zhang Lei of China and Deputy Secretary General of ASEAN H.E. Mr. Nararya S. Soeprapto.
At the meeting, the participants discussed and cordially exchanged views on ASEF cooperation mechanisms, annual voluntary contribution to the ASEF and ASEF projects to be implemented in the year 2025 and 2026 respectively.
Myanmar attaches high importance to Asia-Europe cooperation and as a committed member of ASEF, Myanmar has been regularly contributing its annual voluntary contribution to the ASEF since 2005-2006.
At the full Board meeting which was attended by all ASEF Governors, the representative of Myanmar expressed his sincere thanks to Poland for hosting 46th ASEF BoG Meeting in Krakow. He also expressed his appreciation to the ASEF Executive Director and her team for their commendable works as well as increased numbers of ASEF Projects.
The meeting also approved the nominations of ASEF Governors from Thailand and Korea as Executive Committee (ExCo) members from Asia as nominated by ASEF Asian Caucus and the nomination of ASEF Governor from Spain as ExCo members from Europe as nominated by ASEF European Caucus accordingly.
On the evening of 25th June 2025, the Mayor of Krakow H.E. Aleksander Miszalski hosted a welcome reception in honor of delegates attending the said meeting at the Wielopolski Palace in Krakow. Likewise, on the evening of 27th June, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland organized an ASEF Culture Festival and hosted a Gala Dinner in honor of delegates at the Manggha Museum in Krakow.
ASEF promotes understanding, strengthens relationships and facilitates cooperation among the people, institutions and organizations of Asia and Europe. ASEF was established by the Foreign Ministers of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM). ASEF, in general, is an intergovernmental process comprising 51 partner countries (30 European and 21 Asian countries) and two partner international organizations (EU and the ASEAN Secretariat) in Asia and Europe. ASEF, founded on 15 February 1997, is a permanent body of the ASEM and is based in Singapore.
