Myanmar Embassy in Cairo Holds Reception to Commemorate the 78th Anniversary of Independence Day of Myanmar

The Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Cairo successfully hosted a reception to commemorate the 78th Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar on 5 February 2026, from 1900 hrs to 2100 hrs, at the Fairmont Nile City Hotel in Cairo.

The reception was graced by the presence of H.E. Mr. Amr Hamza, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, as the Guest of Honour. Senior officials from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other government ministries, Ambassadors and Chargés d’Affaires of ASEAN Member States and other foreign missions accredited to Egypt, diplomats, military attachés, members of the Egyptian business community, Myanmar nationals residing in Egypt, students, and over 150 distinguished guests attended the event.

The ceremony commenced with the playing of the national anthems of the two countries. H.E. U Kyaw Tin Shein, Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to the Arab Republic of Egypt, delivered a keynote address in which he highlighted the history of Myanmar’s independence, the longstanding friendly relations between Myanmar and Egypt, and recent developments in Myanmar, with particular reference to the conduct of the 2025 General Elections. A video presentation showcasing Myanmar’s ethnic cultural heritage, tourist destinations, and the country’s economic and agricultural sectors was subsequently screened.

Following the formal programme, the guests enjoyed a buffet dinner featuring Myanmar traditional cuisine and refreshments, accompanied by video presentations of Myanmar traditional cultural performances.
