Myanmar Consul General Ms. Phoo Pwint Ko Ko paid separate courtesy calls on the Hon. Ms. Bernadette LINN, Secretary for Development of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) at 14:30 hrs on 20 July 2026 and the Hon. Dr. Christine CHOI, Secretary for Education of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR at 15:00 hrs on 24 July 2026 respectively in their offices.
During the meeting with the Secretary for Development, the Consul General of Myanmar first praised Hong Kong’s achievements in urban planning and development, including the Northern Metropolis project, as well as in construction and architecture, museums, and cultural heritage preservation. Then, both sides discussed exploring opportunities for enhancing cooperation through workshops, training programs, joint exhibitions showcasing ancient cultural works, sharing expertise and technology in cultural heritage conservation, and exchange of visits between two sides in the fields of urban planning, construction and architecture, archeology and cultural heritage preservation.
During the meeting with the Secretary for Education, acknowledging the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on education cooperation between Myanmar and Hong Kong, the Consul General of Myanmar expressed appreciation to the Hong Kong Government for granting Belt and Road scholarships to Myanmar students to pursue studies at various universities in Hong Kong. Then, both sides exchanged views on further enhancing collaboration not only in higher education but also in basic education and exploring opportunities to increase scholarships for Myanmar students, and exchange of visits for delegations from both sides including teachers and students.
