Myanmar Consul-General Attends the “RELOOKING BIMSTEC 2025 – Facilitating Cross Border Paperless Trade” conference and its special Plenary session

Consul-General of the Consulate-General of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, U Aung Aung Myo Thein, accompanied by the Economic Attaché, attended the “RELOOKING BIMSTEC 2025 – Facilitating Cross Border Paperless Trade” conference as an honored guest on March 20, 2026 at 11:00 am. The event was held at Sister Nivedita University (SNU) in Kolkata, West Bengal, Republic of India, and was organized by SNU in collaboration with the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA), Ministry of External Affairs of India.

The inaugural session of the conference was held from 11:00 am to 12:10 pm with featured addresses by H.E. Amb. Indra Mani Pandey, Secretary General of BIMSTEC Secretariat in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Chancellor of Sister Nivedita University -SNU, Mr. Abhijit Chakraborty from Indian Council of World Affairs -ICWA, Dr. Prabir De from Research and Information Systems -RIS, Dr. K Rangarajan from Indian Institute of Foreign Trade -IIFT. Consul-Generals in Kolkata, invited guests, SNU students, and media representatives were in attendance. Consul-General of Myanmar participated in the Special Plenary Session: “Panel Discussion – Consul-Generals of BIMSTEC Nations in Kolkata,” held from 01:15 pm to 02:15 pm. He was joined on the panel by Mr. Jhakka Prasad, Consul-General of Nepal in Kolkata and former Indian Ambassador Amb. Sarvajit Chakraborty. During his address, Consul-General highlighted India-Myanmar bilateral relations with a specific focus on trade, commerce, and border trade. Emphasizing Myanmar’s role in advancing paperless trade, he spoke about the digital tools of the Ministry of Commerce, including the upgraded online system, TradeNet 2.0, which was cited as a key initiative to accelerate regional trade facilitation and promote the digital economy by providing an online platform for services like Exporter/Importer Registration and the issuance of Import/Export Licenses and Permits.
