Donation of Tipitaka and Atthakatha Books from the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to the Buddhist Archives of Luang Prabang, Lao PDR (31 July 2026, Vientiane)

A hand-over ceremony for the donation of 40 volumes of the Tipitaka and 51 volumes of the Atthakatha, presented by the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to the Buddhist Archives of Luang Prabang, Luang Prabang Province, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, was held at 09:00 hrs on 31 July 2026 at the Buddhist Archives of Luang Prabang, Luang Prabang.


The ceremony was attended by H.E. U Aung Ko, Myanmar Ambassador to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, the representatives of the Luang Prabang Provincial Committee of the Lao Front for National Development, officials of the Luang Prabang Provincial Government, representatives of the Lao Buddhist Fellowship Organisation, Buddhist Monks, members of Buddhist Archives of Luang Prabang and First Secretary of Myanmar in Vientiane and Buddhist devotees.


The donated collection will be kept as part of the permanent archives of the Buddhist Archives of Luang Prabang and will serve as a valuable source of reference for members of the Sangha, scholars, researchers and future generations.


The donation is expected to further strengthen the long-standing cooperation between Myanmar and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in the promotion and propagation of Theravada Buddhism, as well as in the fields of religion and culture. It will also contribute to the preservation of the shared Buddhist literary heritage and to the further advancement of the longstanding bonds of friendship and goodwill between the peoples of the two countries.
