On April 22, 2026, U Win Zeya Tun, Chargé d’ Affaires ad interim/ Minister of the Myanmar Embassy in London met with Dr. Daniel Elger, Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Agriculture and Bioscience International (CABI) at the Centre together with the Desk Officer of the Embassy and Dr. Qiaoqiao Zhang, Director of CABI. Ms. Sing Yun Chin, the Regional Director for Southeast Asia Office in Kuala Lumpur and Ms. Phyllis Engefu Ombonyo, Head of Strategic Partnerships of CABI Office in Nairobi also joined the meeting online.
The meeting includes the briefings on CABI’s strategy and priorities by Dr. Daniel Elger, the status of cooperation and assistance to member countries by Dr. Qiaoqiao Zhang, cooperation under the ASEAN framework by Ms. Sing Yun Chin, and the African cooperation model by Ms. Phyllis Engefu Ombonyo.
U Win Zeyar Tun stressed the importance of agriculture to the people of Myanmar and the Government’s priorities on the development of the agricultural sector and the livelihoods of farmers. He aimed to enhance cooperation on Agri-Tech, One Health and joint research as well as to address challenges including climate change, crop pests and diseases. He also seeks a possible increase in opportunities to join training programs at the CABI Academy for the people of Myanmar, and the publication of research papers from Yezin Agricultural University through the CABI’s Digital Library.
CABI is an intergovernmental, not-for-profit organization that helps improve lives and the agricultural sector worldwide by providing scientific expertise. Myanmar has been a member since 1993.
