U Win Zeyar Tun, Chargé d’affaires ad interim / Minister of the Myanmar Embassy in London Attended the 84th Session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee Meeting at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) (4-5-2026, London)

Myanmar delegation led by U Win Zeyar Tun, Chargé d' Affaires/ Minister of the Myanmar Embassy in London attended the 84th Session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) meeting held at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London from 27 April to 1 May 2026. Officials from the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Myanmar have also participated online. At the opening session, H.E. Mr. Arsenio Dominguez, IMO Secretary-General, delivered an opening speech. The meeting was attended by the delegates from IMO member states, head of missions and desk officers from London based Embassies and High Commissions.
The meeting discussed matters related to international maritime transport and environmental protection including marine environment protection, harmful aquatic organisms in ballast water, air pollution prevention, energy efficiency of ships, reduction of GHG emissions from ships, addressing marine plastic litter from ship, reduction of underwater radiated noise from shipping, and work programme of the Committee and subsidiary bodies.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is a United Nations specialized agency responsible for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships. It has 176 member states. Myanmar became a member of IMO in 1951 and has engaged in technical cooperation ever since.
