The Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Hanoi held a reception to celebrate the Myanmar traditional New Year Atā Thingyan festival, in welcoming the Myanmar New Year 1388 ME, at the premises of the Myanmar Embassy in Hanoi on the evening of 12 April 2026.
The event was hosted by the Chargé d'Affaires a.i./ Ambassador of Myanmar to Viet Nam H.E. U Wai Linn and spouse, and participated by Myanmar Military Attaché (Army, Navy, Air) Brig. General Myint Htun Naing and spouse, and officials and family members of the Myanmar Embassy and the Office of the Military Attaché in Hanoi. Also present on the occasion were H.E. Mr. Nguyen Tat Thanh, Director-General of the South East Asia, South Asia, South Pacific Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, Ambassadors, Chargés d'Affaires and Diplomats and their spouses from the ASEAN and other diplomatic missions in Hanoi, the Chairman and officials of the Viet Nam-Myanmar Friendship Association, Vietnamese Business Community and Myanmar Community in Vietnam.
At the event, Chargé d'Affaires a.i./ Ambassador H.E. U Wai Linn delivered opening remarks by extending festival greetings and new year’s best wishes, while presenting the brief background and cultural practices of Atā Thingyan festival which was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Afterwards, traditional Thingyan dance and singing performances were featured by the officials and family members of the Embassy and the Military Attaché Office while the guests were enjoying Thingyan traditional cuisines and delicacies including Thingyan Htamin (Thingyan rice), Mont Lone Yay Paw (Boiled sticky rice ball with Jaggery) and seasonal dessert Shwe Yin Aye.
