H.E. U Aung Ko, Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, attended the ASEAN Consultative Meeting (ACM–Vientiane) and the handover ceremony of the ACM rotating chairmanship, held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, 12 January 2025, at the Souphattra Hotel in Vientiane, Lao PDR. The meeting was chaired by H.E. Ms. Grata Endah Werdaningtyas, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Lao PDR, in her capacity as the Chair of the ASEAN Consultative Meeting.
The meeting was attended by H.E. Mr. Phongsavanh Sisoulath, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lao PDR and Lao SOM Leader for ASEAN, as well as Senior Officials from ASEAN Affairs Department, Heads of ASEAN Missions accredited to Lao PDR and representatives respectively.
During the meeting, the Indonesian Ambassador briefed participants on the activities undertaken during her tenure as Chair of the ASEAN Consultative Meeting. H.E. Mr. Phongsavanh Sisoulath provided an overview of recent domestic developments in Lao PDR. Then, Malaysian Ambassador to the Lao PDR apprised on the achievements and outcomes Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025 which was followed by briefing by the Ambassador of the Philippines to Lao PDR on matters pertaining to preparations and priority areas for the Philippines’ forthcoming ASEAN Chairmanship in 2026.
Subsequently, H.E. Ms. Grata Endah Werdaningtyas formally handed over the rotating chairmanship of the ASEAN Consultative Meeting (Vientiane) to H.E. Mr. Edi Trwan Bin Mahmud, Ambassador of Malaysia to Lao PDR.
Following the meeting, the Indonesian Ambassador hosted a luncheon in honour of the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lao PDR, senior officials from the ASEAN Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lao PDR, Heads of ASEAN Missions, and their representatives.
