H.E. U Aung Min Oo, Myanmar Ambassador to Ethiopia, attended the opening ceremony of the Ethiopian National Dialogue Conference held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 15 July 2026.
The conference is being convened with the objective of fostering national reconciliation and unity in Ethiopia. In his address at the opening ceremony, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed emphasized that the conference presents a critical opportunity to end conflicts. He remarked that this is not a conventional political forum, but a grassroots-based dialogue driven by the participation of the public. He further stated that domestic unity is closely intertwined with national security, stability, and sovereignty, and noted that the decisions emerging from this dialogue could pave the way for a new roadmap for Ethiopia..
The Chief Commissioner of the National Dialogue Commission also delivered a speech, urging participants to engage in constructive negotiations to build a system where all can harmoniously coexist alongside their differences, and to reject violence in favor of trust-based dialogue. The conference will be held for a duration of 30 days.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of Ethiopia and senior officials, Ambassadors from embassies based in Addis Ababa, and representatives of international organizations. Additionally, approximately 40,000 participants, including interfaith leaders, ethnic representatives, and civil society delegates from across Ethiopia, also attended the event.
