Upon receiving the reports that a Myanmar national who works as an interpreter for a construction company in Chonburi Province, Thailand, was subjected to unlawful torture by the foreign owners of the company, H.E. U Zaw Zaw Soe, Ambassador of Myanmar to the Kingdom of Thailand, accompanied by the Embassy officials and the Labor Attaché, met with the victim Ko Thar Thar (aged 27, native of Myitkyina), who is currently undergoing medical treatment for his injuries, at 10.30 hrs. on 8 May 2026 at the Myanmar Embassy in Bangkok. Embassy inquired about the details of the assault as well as the status of the legal proceedings filed against the perpetrators while offering words of encouragement and solace.
During the meeting, the Myanmar Ambassador emphasized that the Embassy, in coordination with the Labor Attaché’s Office and Thailand-based migrant worker advocacy groups, will continue to provide necessary assistance to ensure that the case is justifiably handled with Thai Labor Laws, hold the perpetrators accountable, and secure compensation for the victim. Furthermore, the Ambassador presented financial assistance contributed by the staff and families of the Myanmar Embassy to Ko Thar Thar.
