The Myanmar Delegation led by Deputy Director General, U Han Win Naing as an Alternate Representative of Myanmar to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) attended the Special Meeting 1/2026 of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) held from 17 to 21 July 2026 in Manila, the Philippines.
The AICHR Special Meeting 1/2026 was chaired by H.E. Georgina Ann Hernandez Yang, Acting Chair of AICHR, and attended by AICHR Representatives and Alternate Representatives, AICHR Assistants, and officials from the ASEAN Secretariat.
During the Meeting, human rights concerns and thematic priorities such as human rights and the environment, disability inclusion, business and human rights, digital transformation, conflict and peace, trafficking in persons (TIP), online scams, and economic, social and cultural rights, particularly in the context of poverty eradication and access to education, were also discussed among AICHR Representatives.
Myanmar Representatives reaffirmed the commitment to actively participate in the Priority Programmes/Activities of AICHR. He also discussed Myanmar’s development progress, as well as the government’s ongoing efforts in collaboration with ASEAN countries, neighboring countries, regional organizations, and the international communities in cross-border crime issues, including online scams, drug prevention and suppression, and anti-human trafficking measures.
During the meeting, Myanmar delegation attended the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Interface Meeting with AICHR Representatives, convened on 20 July 2026 during the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM). AICHR submitted its Priority Programmes/Activities for 2027 and Annual Report 2026.
Myanmar Representatives also attended its 15th Interface with the Secretary-General of ASEAN, and shared views on AICHR’s ongoing work to advance human rights in ASEAN.
