The Consulate-General of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Chongqing successfully hosted a reception in commemoration of the 78th Anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar on 27 February 2026, from 18:30 to 20:30 hrs, at the InterContinental Hotel in Chongqing.
The event was graced by Mr. Huang Maojun, Vice Mayor of Chongqing Municipality, as the Guest of Honour. Also in attendance were Mr. Gong Yue, Deputy Secretary-General of the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government; Mr. Feng Zinmin, Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Affairs Office of Chongqing Municipality; Ms. Ye Lina, Deputy Director-General of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce; Deputy Directors-General from the Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism and the Port and Logistics Office; officials from the Foreign Affairs Offices and Economic Commissions of Sichuan and Hubei Provinces; Vice Chairpersons from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Chongqing Council and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Sichuan Council; Consuls-General and diplomats from consular missions based in Chongqing and Chengdu; professors from universities in Chongqing; business representatives; Myanmar students studying in Chongqing; and invited guests, totaling approximately 250 attendees.
The ceremony commenced with the national anthems of the Republic of Myanmar and the People’s Republic of China, followed by a flag salute to honour both nations. U Kyaw Zay Yar Lin, Consul-General of Myanmar in Chongqing, delivered a commemorative address marking the 78th Anniversary of Independence Day. This was followed by congratulatory remarks from Vice Mayor Mr. Huang Maojun. The Guest of Honour, Consul -General and distinguished guests then jointly cut the ceremonial cake to mark the occasion.
Cultural performances were presented by Myanmar students studying at universities in Chongqing, who showcased traditional Myanmar dances and performances. In addition, Chinese students majoring in the Myanmar language at Sichuan International Studies University performed songs in celebration of the event.
