The Embassy of Myanmar and CABI (Centre for Agriculture and Bioscience International) jointly organized a Technical Briefing for London-based Embassies, held at the Myanmar Embassy in London on 16 July 2026. The briefing was attended by Heads of Mission and representatives from various diplomatic missions in London.
Mr. Win Zeyar Tun, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Myanmar Embassy delivered the opening remarks, in which he underscored the importance of the agricultural sector as a guardian of food security and a key driver of national economic development. He further touched upon the current challenges confronted by countries around the world, including the adverse effects of climate change, domestic and transboundary pest infestations, and the spread of plant diseases. In addition, he emphasized the “One Health” approach, noting that the interconnectedness of plant, animal, and human health has become an increasingly pressing issue for these nations.
Dr. Daniel Elger, Chief Executive Officer of CABI, presented CABI’s strategy and objectives and Dr. Qiaoqiao Zhang, Secretary to the Executive Council of CABI, shared an update on the assistance provided to member countries. Mrs. Srijita Dasgupta, Global Lead for Climate Change Adaptation, explained the Plantwise-Plus and other programmes in South-East and South Asia. Questions and queries from the attending diplomats were answered by CABI, and views were exchanged on further cooperation with the organization.
In addition, discussions were held between the Myanmar Embassy and CABI to strengthen agricultural cooperation for the benefit of Myanmar’s farmers.
