Myanmar delegation led by U Chan Aye, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs attended the ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM), Joint Consultative Meeting (JCM), 13th ASEAN Coordinating Council Working Group (ACCWG) on Timor-Leste’s Application for ASEAN Membership, 9th ASEAN Coordinating Council Working Group on Public Health Emergencies (ACCWG-PHE), ASEAN Plus Three Preparatory Senior Officials’ Meeting (APT Prep-SOM) and East Asia Summit Preparatory Senior Officials’ Meeting (EAS Prep-SOM) which were held on 5-6 October 2022, Hyatt Regency Hotel, Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
The meetings were chaired by H.E. EAT Sophea, Secretary of State and, ASEAN SOM Leader of Cambodia and were attended by the ASEAN Senior Officials from three Pillars and respective officials from ASEAN Member States, representatives from Permanent Missions to ASEAN as well as representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat.
The two Meetings namely ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting and Joint Consultative Meeting held on 5 October 2022 exchanged views on the matters pertaining to Cambodia’s Chairmanship Deliverables, Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), External Relations, ASEAN Community Vision Post-2025, Cross-Sectoral and Cross-Pillar Issues/Coordination and discussed the preparations for 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and Related Summits and follow-up to the ASEAN Leaders’ Meeting which was held on 24 April 2021.
The 13th ASEAN Coordinating Council Working Group (ACCWG) on Timor-Leste’s Application for ASEAN Membership discussed matters relating to further cooperation through the participation of the ASEAN’s capacity building activities and the way forward and reviewed on the Assessment Reports of Fact-Finding Missions of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC).
The 9th ASEAN Coordination Council Working Group on Public Health Emergencies (ACCWGPHE) discussed on the ASEAN Key initiatives on COVID-19 Response and possible ways and means to enhance cooperation for future potential challenges related to public health as well as for emerging diseases and pandemic situation.
ASEAN Plus Three Preparatory Senior Officials’ Meeting (APT Prep-SOM) and East Asia Summit Preparatory Senior Officials’ Meeting (EAS Prep-SOM) discussed upon the preparatory works to successfully convene the 25th ASEAN Plus Three Summit and 17th East Asia Summit to be held in November 2022 and regional and international issues.
In response to the interventions made by the other delegations on the Myanmar issue, U Chan Aye, Permanent Secretary, ASEAN-Myanmar SOM Leader, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, responded that Myanmar issue is an internal issue that needs to be addressed by the concerned country. The regional and international community is required to condemn the actions of the National Unity Government (NUG) who is intentionally committing violent acts and targeted killings. Myanmar does not accept any kind of supports to the unlawful and terrorist organization NUG. On Humanitarian Assistance to Myanmar, Myanmar is actively cooperating with AHA Centre. Myanmar, as a sovereign state does not accept any kind of political interference made by other countries through humanitarian assistance.
