Myanmar Permanent Representative Attends Handover Ceremony of the Chairmanship of the G77 (Vienna Chapter)

Ambassador U Min Thein, Permanent Representative of Myanmar based in Vienna, Austria, attended the handover ceremony of the Chairmanship of the Group of 77 (Vienna Chapter), held at the Vienna International Centre on 20 January 2026.

At the ceremony, the Charge d’Affaires of the Permanent Mission of Kenya, which served as Chair of the G77, briefed on the activities of the G77 and China undertaken in Vienna during 2025 and handed over the Chairmanship to H.E. Mr. Shambhu S. Kumaran, Permanent Representative of India, for 2026. The new Chair then delivered his remarks.

Congratulatory remarks were also delivered by heads and representatives of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV)/the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), and United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), as well as Permanent Representatives and other representatives of the Missions.

The Myanmar Permanent Representative, in his congratulatory remarks, commended the Permanent Representative of Kenya for his active and able leadership as the 2025 G77 Chair. He congratulated the Permanent Representative of India on assumption as Chair of the G77 for 2026, expressing his confidence in India’s leadership in achieving the Group’s shared goals through unity and effectiveness. The Permanent Representative assured the new Chair of Myanmar’s full support and active cooperation by working closely with him to promote collective interests and further strengthen the “Vienna Spirit” of consensus.
