The Myanmar Embassy in Canberra led by Chargéd'affaires Daw Myat Thuzar Than participated in the National Multicultural Festival 2026, held in Canberra, Australia, by showcasing a Myanmar exhibition booth together with the Embassies of ASEAN Member States under the ASEAN Village programme on Saturday, 7 February 2026.
The opening ceremony of the ASEAN Village was graced by the Honourable Mr. Andrew Barr, Chief Minister of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), as the Guest of Honour. The Chief Minister officially inaugurated the ASEAN Village by striking a ceremonial gong together with the Heads of Mission from eleven ASEAN Embassies in Canberra, including the Myanmar Embassy, and also participated in commemorative group photographs.
At its exhibition booth, the Myanmar Embassy displayed a variety of traditional Myanmar cultural items and handicrafts, including gold and silver thread embroidery artworks, Lawkanat statue, traditional Myanmar harp (Saung), lacquerware, a collection of Myanmar jade jewellery such as necklaces and bracelets as well as ethnic costumes, Pathein umbrellas, and various other craft items. Particularly, Myanmar’s traditional Thanaka as a symbol of cultural identity was highlighted at the Myanmar booth, and it was attracted by the large numbers of visitors, and they enjoyed experimenting with Thanaka face painting.
The Chargé d’Affaires a.i. and embassy staffs warmly welcomed the visitors at the Myanmar Gallery, explained and introduced about Myanmar’s traditional unique culture, heritage, and handicrafts were displayed.
The National Multicultural Festival is a prominent Australian cultural event held in every February, celebrates a 3-days event and returns for its 28th year. This year festival featured over (170) exhibits, from over 80 Embassies based in Canberra and local communities showcased diverse cultural traditions and promoted understanding.
