The Myanmar Embassy in Washington, D.C. participated in the “ASEAN Couture: A Tapestry of Style and Heritage” held at the American University School of International Service in Washington, D.C. in the morning of 22 May 2025 and U Thet Win, Chargé d'Affaires a.i./ Minister of the Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Washington, D.C., officials and their family members took part in the event. The ASEAN Couture event was co-hosted by the ASEAN Spouses’ Circle (ASC) and the American University (AU).
At the opening session, Mrs. Lui Soo Fen, President of ASC and Spouse of the Ambassador of Singapore to the U.S. and Ambassador Piper Campbell, Chair of American University’s Department of Foreign Policy and Global Security, delivered their opening remarks.
During the event, the ASEAN Embassies presented the guests with cultural performances such as traditional dances, traditional attires fashion show, delivered spotlight presentations on respective traditional/ national costumes and entertained with traditional food and delicacies. The guests attending the event toured around the exhibition booths where traditional costumes, fabrics, goods and cultural items were showcased by the ASEAN Embassies.
The Myanmar Embassy participated in the event by presenting some styles of Myanmar traditional costumes and introduced the Myanmar traditional New Year Atā Thingyan which was recognized as UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage to the guests with the demonstration of Thingyan fashion and traditions. In addition, the Myanmar Embassy also displayed Myanmar traditional costumes, Myanmar silk and cottons, lacquerware, tapestry and other Myanmar traditional handicrafts at the exhibition booth of the Embassy and treated the guests with Myanmar traditional desserts.
More than 200 guests including Ambassadors/ Heads of Mission and spouses, diplomats, officials from the U.S. Department of State and representatives from various agencies were present at the event.
