Myanmar Embassy in Riyadh Holds Reception to Commemorate the 78th Anniversary of Independence Day of Myanmar

The Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Riyadh successfully hosted a reception to commemorate the 78th Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar on 5 February 2026, from 1900 hrs to 2100 hrs, at the Cultural Palace, Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh and the reception was graced by the presence of His Highness Dr. Faisal bin Abdulaziz AlSudairi, Undersecretary of the Riyadh Region, Senior officials of the Riyadh region, as the Guest of Honour. Senior officials from the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Labour and other government ministries, Ambassadors and Chargés d’Affaires of ASEAN Member States and other foreign missions accredited to Saudi Arabia, diplomats, military attachés, members of the Saudi and Myanmar business community, Myanmar nationals residing in Saudi Arabia, and over 200 distinguished guests attended the event.

The ceremony commenced with the playing of the national anthems of the two countries. H.E. U Nay Myo Oo, Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, delivered a keynote address in which he highlighted the history of Myanmar’s independence, the longstanding friendly relations between Myanmar and Saudi Arabia, recent development in Myanmar reference to the conduct of the 2025 General Elections. After that Ambassador and Guest of Honour Undersecretary of the Riyadh Region right cut the ceremony cake and a video presentation showcasing Myanmar’s ethnic cultural heritage, tourist destinations was subsequently screened, following the formal programme and the guests were served with buffet dinner featuring Myanmar traditional cuisine and refreshments.
