Myanmar Delegation Attends 43rd Meeting of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights(25-5-2026, Jakarta)

The Myanmar Delegation led by H.E. U Nyunt Swe, Representative of Myanmar to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) attended the 43rd Meeting of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights held from 18 to 22 May 2026 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The Meeting discussed the follow-up actions to support the implementation of the ASEAN Declaration on the Right to a Safe, Clean, Healthy and Sustainable Environment and the ASEAN Declaration on Promoting the Right to Development and the Right to Peace Towards Realising Inclusive and Sustainable Development.
The AICHR representatives discussed institutional matters, including the development of a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Framework for the implementation of the AICHR Five-Year Work Plan 2026–2030, preparations for the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) Interface with AICHR Representatives, scheduled in July 2026, including the draft Annual Report of AICHR for 2025–2026, and proposed AICHR Priority Programmes/Activities for 2027, the draft Statement of the AICHR Chair to the 59th AMM.
During the 43rd AICHR Meeting, AICHR held its 17th Annual Interface Meeting with the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN (CPR). In strengthening cross-sectoral collaboration, AICHR also met with the ASEAN University Network on Human Rights Education (AUN-HRE). Then, AICHR also held its 9th Meetings with Australia and the European Union, its 5th meetings with Japan, and its Second Meetings with Norway and the Republic of Korea respectively, and discussed potential areas of collaboration and recent human rights developments.
