Myanmar Ambassador to the Republic of India, H.E. U Zaw Oo Attends the Opening Ceremony of the 2nd Global Buddhist Summit (GBS) Jointly Organized by the Ministry of Culture of India and the International Buddhist Confederation

Ambassador of Myanmar to the Republic of India, H.E. U Zaw Oo, attended Opening Ceremony of the 2nd Global Buddhist Summit (GBS) held under the theme “Collective Wisdom, United Voice, and Mutual Coexistence” at 09:00 a.m. on 24 January 2026 at Bharat Mandapam Hall, New Delhi.

The opening ceremony was attended by H.E. Mr. Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Minister of Culture of India, as the Chief Guest, and H.E. Mr. Shri Kiren Rijiju, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, as the Guest of Honour, both of whom delivered keynote addresses.

The event was attended by Supreme Patriarchs, senior Monks from Buddhist countries, religious leaders, distinguished Buddhist scholars, and specially invited guests from more than 40 countries. In addition, the Ambassador of Cambodia to India, along with diplomats from ASEAN countries based in New Delhi and representatives from various international missions, were also in attendance.

From Myanmar, a delegation led by Deputy Minister Daw Nu Mra Zan from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture participated in the Summit and engaged in discussions under “the Exclusive Conversation on Collective Wisdom and United Voice of Social Harmony”.

The First Global Buddhist Summit was held in New Delhi, India, on 20–21 April 2023, with the Prime Minister of India attending as the Chief Guest. That Summit was attended by Supreme Patriarchs, religious leaders, eminent Buddhist scholars, and specially invited guests from 31 countries. From Myanmar, a delegation of senior monks led by Venerable Sitagu Sayadaw Dr. Ñāṇissara participated in the event.
