Myanmar Ambassador to Laos Attends Courtesy Meeting to Extend Congratulations on the Appointment of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Lao PDR

U Aung Ko, Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, attended a congratulatory courtesy call held in honour of H.E. Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR, on the occasion of his promotion as Deputy Prime Minister and reappointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The ceremony took place at 15:30 hrs on 1 April 2026 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Vientiane. The courtesy call was attended by Heads Missions and Chargés d’Affaires from the Embassies of ASEAN Member States based in Vientiane, along with the Permanent Secretary, Directors-General, and other senior officials from the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The event was led by H.E. Mr. Edi Irwan Mahmud, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Lao PDR as rotating Chair of the ASEAN Consultative Meeting (ACM) in Vientiane. On behalf of the ASEAN Heads of Mission, he extended warm congratulations to H.E. Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihan on his promotion of Deputy Prime Minister. He also expressed sincere appreciation for the close cooperation and support rendered by the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ASEAN diplomatic missions in Vientiane, and reaffirmed ASEAN Embassies’ commitment to further strengthening collaboration in the future.

In return, H.E. Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his sincere appreciation to the ASEAN Heads of Mission for their collective gesture of goodwill and congratulations. He also conveyed gratitude for the continued support and constructive cooperation extended by the ASEAN Member States to the Lao PDR. He also reaffirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR will continue to actively engage and cooperate with the ASEAN diplomatic missions in advancing bilateral relations and ASEAN-related initiatives.

At the ceremony, the ASEAN Heads of Mission presented a congratulatory flower basket and a commemorative plaque to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
