A dinner reception marking the 75th Anniversary (Diamond Jubilee) of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the People’s Republic of China was held on 9 June 2025 at the Green Lake Hotel in Kunming City, Yunnan Province.
The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Thwin Htut Lin, Consul General of Myanmar in Kunming; Mr. Xu Hao, Vice Governor of the People’s Government of Yunnan Province; representatives from the Yunnan People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries; consuls and diplomatic personnel; officials from various departments of the Yunnan Provincial People’s Government; and invited guests.
During the ceremony, Mr. Xu Hao delivered a congratulatory speech, highlighting that Yunnan Province of China shares the closest geographical proximity with Myanmar, and that the two peoples are deeply connected through friendship and cultural affinity. He noted Yunnan’s timely response in extending humanitarian aid and emergency rescue efforts after the recent Mandalay earthquake. He emphasized the strength of the “Pauk-Phaw” friendship between the peoples of Myanmar and China and expressed confidence that the long-standing friendship and broad-based cooperation between the two countries would continue to grow in the future.
In his response, the Consul General of Myanmar reaffirmed the longstanding and unique friendship between Myanmar and China over the past 75 years. He noted that guided by the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, the two countries have steadily expanded bilateral cooperation across various fields. The Consul General reiterated Myanmar’s commitment to advancing the strategic partnership and fostering mutual progress.
As part of the evening's proceedings, Vice Governor Mr. Xu Hao formally handed over the “List of Projects under the Hand-in-Hand Program” to Consul General Mr. Thwin Htut Lin, symbolizing continued collaboration between Yunnan and Myanmar at the sub-national level.
The commemorative dinner featured a series of cultural performances, including traditional dances presented by artistic troupes from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture of Myanmar, the National University of Arts and Culture, and the Yunnan People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, further showcasing the vibrant cultural exchange and goodwill between the two peoples.
