Myanmar citizens in Thailand, along with Thai nationals, have reached out to the Myanmar Consulate-General in Chiang Mai to offer cash donations and essential supplies as humanitarian assistance to those affected by the earthquake that struck Mandalay on March 28, 2025. On April 7, 2025, the Head Abbot of Wat Sai Mon Myanmar Monastery, Aggamahāpaṇḍita Dr. Kaundinya, along with his disciples, donated supplies including rice, cooking oil, condiments, instant noodles, and toiletries worth 52,765 baht, as well as a cash donation of 161,500 baht, to the Myanmar Consulate-General. Subsequently, on April 19, Consul-General Ming Kyaw Linn received a cash donation of 560,200 baht from Ashin Phra Khru Phawana Samanawatwi, Head of the Tanung Lenung Meditation Center and recipient of the “Agga Maha Kammatthanacariya” title from the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Additionally, on April 21, the Consul-General received 4 tons of relief supplies, valued at 429,000 baht from the iCare Thailand Foundation. The donation included sardines, instant noodles and vermicelli, rice, blankets, mosquito nets, flashlights, medicines, toothpaste and toothbrushes, and soap. The Consul-General met with the donors, received their contributions, and expressed sincere gratitude for their generous support of the earthquake victims in Myanmar. The cash donations are being transferred to Myanmar’s National Disaster Management Committee through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the supplies have already been sent to Myanmar via Myanmar National Airlines (MNA) in five separate shipments.
