Consul-General of the Myanmar Consulate-General in Chiang Mai Attends the Opening Ceremony of Songkran Festival in Chiang Mai

U Min Kyaw Linn, the Consul-General of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Chiang Mai, attended the Opening Ceremony of Songkran Festival held under the theme of “Joyful Songkran, My Home”, on 13 April, 2026, upon the invitation of Chiang Mai Mayor Mr. Assanee Buranupakorn. The Ceremony was organized by Chiang Mai Municipality and took place at the famous Tha Phae Gate, in Chiang Mai’s Old City. Also present at the event were Governor and Mayor of Chiang Mai province, Consuls-General and Consuls from the Consulates-General based in Chiang Mai as well as officials from various offices in Chiang Mai.

Before the opening ceremony, a religious service was conducted, which included listening to the chanting of protective Paritta suttas by the 9 venerable monks, led by the Patriarch of the Chiang Mai Provincial Sangha Organization. Along with other distinguished guests, the Consul-General offered alms to 30 monks. Following the offering, the congregation shared the merits gained from these noble deeds through a water-libation ceremony.
