The Chargé d’affaires of the Myanmar Embassy in Canberra, Daw Myat Thuzar Than, on behalf of Myanmar’s ASEAN Senior Official, attended the 38th ASEAN-Australia Forum, hosted by Australia in Sydney from 12 to 13 May 2026, and the 33rd ASEAN- New Zealand Dialogue, hosted by New Zealand in Christchurch from 14 to 15 May 2026. The meetings were attended by ASEAN Senior Officials from the 11 ASEAN Member States, as well as from Australia and New Zealand, respectively.
At the 38th ASEAN-Australia Forum, the Senior Officials discussed and reviewed developments in ASEAN and Australia, and discussed on the future directions of ASEAN-Australia relations. They also exchanged views on regional and International developments and deliberated on preparations for forthcoming ASEAN-Australia Meetings. During the Meeting, Myanmar led the discussion on development cooperation in the areas of Education, Health, and Disaster Management under the Socio-Cultural Cooperation pillar in the implementation of the ASEAN-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
At the 33rd ASEAN-New Zealand Dialogue, the Senior Officials exchanged views on regional and international geostrategic developments in 2026, and discussed on regional priorities. The meeting also discussed and exchanged views on progress in implementation of ASEAN-New Zealand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership across various sectors and future direction including priorities for 2026-2027 and preparations for the upcoming ASEAN-New Zealand Meetings. During the meeting, Myanmar discussed on Cross-pillar cooperation related to the Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI) Work Plan V, the ASEAN Connectivity Strategic Plan, and sub-regional cooperation in the areas of water resources, agriculture and Infrastructure under the framework of Plan of Action to implement the ASEAN-New Zealand CSP (2026-2030).
