A Handover Ceremony of 500 Metric Tonnes of Rice Donated by Myanmar to Sri Lanka Was Held at the Colombo Port

A handover ceremony for 500 metric tonnes (10,000 bags) of rice, donated by Myanmar to the people of Sri Lanka affected by Cyclone Ditwah was held at the Colombo Port on 9 February 2026 (Monday) at 10:30 hrs.

At the ceremony, H.E. Daw Marlar Than Htaik, Ambassador of Myanmar, handed over the consignment of rice to Hon. Mr. Wasantha Samarasinghe, Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development of Sri Lanka. The event was attended by Ms. Chamari Rodrigo, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, officials from the Sri Lanka Disaster Management Centre (DMC), the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, and staff members of the Embassy of Myanmar.

Following the ceremony, the Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development of Sri Lanka expressed his gratitude for the rice donation from Myanmar, and the Myanmar Ambassador conveyed Myanmar’s solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka and reaffirmed the continued cooperation between the two countries to the media. Afterwards, attendees took commemorative photographs together.
