Senior General Than Shwe meets
Indian Prime Minister

NAY PYI TAW, 30 July - Chairman of the State Peace and Development
Council of the Union of Myanmar Senior General Than Shwe received Prime
Minister of the Republic of India Dr. Manmohan Singh at the Deccan Suite
of Hyderabad House in New Delhi at 4.45 pm on 27 July.
They held discussions at the Conference Room. Also present at the meeting together with Senior General Than Shwe were SPDC Member General Thura Shwe Mann, SPDC Secretary-1 General Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo, Lt-Gen Min Aung Hlaing of the Ministry of Defence, Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Thura Myint Aung, ministers, Myanmar Ambassador to the Republic of India U Kyi Thein and departmental heads and together with the Indian Prime Minister were Minister of Finance Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, Minister of Defence Mr. A K Antony, Minister of Home Affairs Mr. P Chidambaram, Minister of External Affairs Mr. S M Krishna, Minister of Power Mr. Sushil Kumar Shinde, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Mr. Murli Deora, Minister of Shipping Mr. G K Vasan, Minister of State Mrs. Preneet Kaur of the Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian Ambassador to Myanmar and high-ranking officials. The two leaders cordially greeted each other. They exchanged views on neighbourly relations between the two nations based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence for strengthening mutual understanding and friendly relations, stability and development of border areas, enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade and economic, India-Myanmar-Thai cooperation in development of road transportation, Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project, maintenance of Tiddim road, upgrading of Steelwell Road, development in agricultural, industrial, power and IT sectors, boosting cooperation in energy, science and technology, rail transportation, education, health, information, cultural, communication and tourism sectors and regional and international cooperation. The signing ceremony of treaty and Memorandums of Understanding between the Union of Myanmar government and Indian government was held at the Hall of Hyderabad House. Treaty on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters between the Union of Myanmar government and India government was signed by Minister of Foreign Affairs U Nyan Win and Indian Home Affairs Minister Mr. P Chidambaram; MoU on Indian grant assistance for implementation of small developmental projects by Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha and Indian External Affairs Minister Mr. S M Krishna; MoU on Information Cooperation by Minister for Information U Kyaw Hsan and Secretary of Information Ministry Mr. Taghu Menon; and MoU on cooperation in science and Technology by Myanmar Ambassador to India U Kyi Thein and Secretary of Department of Science and Technology of India Dr. T Ramasami; and MoU on conservation and restoration of Ananda Temple in Bagan by Myanmar Ambassador U Kyi Thein and Sectory of Ministry of Culture Mr. Jawhar Sircar. They later exchanged the documents. After the signing ceremony, the two sides released Myanmar-Indian Joint Statement. |
