Senior General Than Shwe and wife
Daw Kyaing Kyaing welcomed by Indian President
 
NAY PYI TAW, 30 July - Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing, who were on a goodwill visit in New Delhi of the Republic of India, were welcomed by Indian President Her Excellency Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil at the Darbar Hall of Presidential Palace in New Delhi on 27 July morning.

On arrival at the Presidential Palace in Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing were warmly welcomed by Indian President Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil. Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh also welcomed them.

Next, Senior General Than Shwe, wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing and the Indian President took places on the dais. The military band played national anthems of the Union of Myanmar and the Republic of India.

Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing then greeted Indian Prime MinisterDr. Manmohan Singh, ministers, deputy ministers and highranking officials. The Indian President also greeted the entourage of Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing. Senior General Than Shwe, wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing, the Indian President and the Indian Prime Minister posed for a documentary photo.

The welcoming ceremony was also attended by Member of the State Peace and Development Council General Thura Shwe Mann, SPDC Secretary-1 General Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo, Lt-Gen Min Aung Hlaing of the Ministry of Defence, Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Thura Myint Aung, ministers, Myanmar Ambassador to the Republic of India U Kyi Thein and the director-general of the Protocol Department of the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Indian President and the Indian Prime Minister were accompanied by Minister of Finance Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, Minister of Defence Mr. A.K. Antony, Minister of External Affairs Mr. Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna, Minister of Home Affairs Mr. Palaniappan Chidambaram, Minister of Power Mr. Sushil Kumar Shinde, deputy ministers and highranking officials.
