At the invitation of Minister for Foreign Affairs U Nyan Win of the Union of Myanmar, Speaker of Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka Mr WJM Lokubandara and party arrived on 3 March 2005 for paying a goodwill visit.
The Sri Lankan Speaker of Parliament and party were welcomed at Yangon International Airport by officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lankan Ambassador to Myanamar Mr DMM Ranaraza and responsible officials. The visiting Sri Lankan Parliament Speaker and party went to Myanmar-Sri Lanka Rama Monastery in Tamway Township and donated the offertories to Local and Foreign Missionary State Ovadaçariya Agga Maha Panita Baddanta Ñaninda.
Afterwards, the visiting Sri Lankan Parliament Speaker and party visited Shwedagon Pagoda and offered flowers and lights to the Buddha Image at the Southern Prayer Hall. Next, the visiting Sri Lankan Parliament Speaker signed in the visitors’ book of the pagoda and donated cash for all-round construction of the pagoda.
In the evening, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Nyan Win hosted a dinner to the visiting Sri Lankan Parliament Speaker and party at Sedona Hotel on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road.
