President U Thein Sein attends 14th ASEAN-China Commemorative Summit, Launching of ASEAN-China Centre, 14th ASEAN-Japan Summit, 14th ASEAN-Republic of Korea Summit and 14th ASEAN+3 Summit

 

NAY PYI TAW, 21 Nov-President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Thein Sein attended 14th ASEAN-China Commemorative Summit, Launching of ASEAN-China Centre, 14th ASEAN-Japan Summit, 14th ASEAN-Republic of Korea Summit and 14th ASEAN+3 Summit at Bali Nusa Dua Convention Centre (BNDCC) in Bali of the Republic of Indonesia on 18 November.

First, ASEAN-China Commemorative Summit was held at Nusa Dua Hall 3 in BNDCC, attended by President U Thein Sein, King of Brunei Darussalam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen of Cambodia, Indonesian President Dr Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Prime Minister of Lao PDR Mr Thongsing Thammavong, Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak, President of the Philippines Benigno S. Aquino III, Singaporean Prime Minister Mr Lee Hsien Loong, Thai Prime Minister Ms Yingluck Shinawatra, Prime Minister of Socialist Republic of Vietnam Mr Nguyen Tan Dung, Prime Minister of the State Council of People's Republic of China Mr Wen Jiabao and ASEAN Secretary-General Dr Surin Pitsuwan.

Before the summit, heads of State/Government of ASEAN nations and the Chinese Premier posed for documentary photo. During the summit, ASEAN leaders and the Chinese Premier reviewed ASEAN-China relations and exchanged views on prospects of future cooperation.

China declared that it would invest USD 10 billion including USD 4 billion loan at low interest rate in infrastructural development of ASEAN Integration Project. It also proposed to invest RMB 3 billion in practical maritime cooperation and promote cooperation in science and technology by designating 2012 as Year of Science and Technology.

President U Thein Sein expressed a welcome to China's leading role. Leaders of ASEAN nations and Chinese Premier adopted the Joint Statement to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of ASEANChina dialogue relations.

Next, leaders of ASEAN countries and China attended the opening of ASEAN-China Center. The Indonesian President and Chinese Premier unveiled the signboard of ASEAN-China centre.

ASEAN leaders, Japanese Prime Minister Mr Yoshihiko Noda and the ASEAN Secretary General then attended the 14th ASEAN-Japan Summit at 10 am. ASEAN leaders and Japanese Prime Minister reassessed ASEAN-Japan relations and exchanged views on prospects of ASEAN-Japan partnership.

The Japanese Prime Minister welcomed the political reforms in Myanmar, offering Japan's assistance to Myanmar in conducting surveys in its special economic zones in connection with ASEAN Integration if the latter wished. He added that he hoped Myanmar would promote democracy and national reconciliation. He expressed his support for Myanmar's taking over of ASEAN Chair as a responsible fellow of the ASEAN and Japan's commitment to cooperation with Myanmar.

During the summit, leaders of ASEAN nations and Japan adopted Joint Declaration for Enhancing ASEAN-Japan Strategic Partnership and its Plan of Action for 2011-2015.

At 11.35 pm, ASEAN-ROK Summit was held, attended by leaders of ASEAN nations, ROK President Mr Lee Myung-bak and the ASEAN Secretary- General.

During the summit, leaders of ASEAN countries and the ROK President reviewed ASEAN-ROK relations and discussed prospects of cooperation. Next, heads of State/ Government of ASEAN, China, Japan and ROK enjoyed the luncheon at Nusa Dua 2 Hall in BNDCC.

At 2 pm, leaders of ASEAN, PRC, Japan and ROK attended 14th ASEAN+3 Summit, during which they reassessed relations between ASEAN and its three partners and discussed future prospects. They also exchanged views on regional and international issues.

President U Thein Sein confirmed Myanmar's hosting of 10th East Asia Forum in 2012 under ASEAN+3 partnership.
