Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker Thura U Shwe Mann receives US Senator Mr Addison Mitchell Mc Connell.-MNA

NAY PYI TAW, 17 Jan-Speaker of Pyithu Hluttaw Thura U Shwe Mann received the visiting US delegation led by Senator Mr Addison Mitchell McConnell at Zabuthiri Hall in Hluttaw Building here this morning.

Also present together with the Speaker were chairpersons and secretaries of Pyithu Hluttaw committees.

The Speaker talked about fostering Myanmar-US relations, proposing to establish bilateral cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries. He explained measures for holding free and fair by-election soon, functions of the Hluttaw, drafting of bills and political policies of Myanmar.

The US Senator expressed his acknowledgement of the political reforms in Myanmar, describing it as a welcome change. He revealed his support for works of the Hluttaw, agreeing to establish bilateral cooperation between the two parliaments. He added that magnanimous actions of the President, Hluttaw Speakers and the government were distinct, stressing the US belief in Myanmar's democratization process.-MNA
