The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win received the Indonesian Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Wyoso Prodijowarsito at 2 pm on 12 July 2004 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and said that there has been some news media reports that a listening device had been discovered in the Indonesian Ambassador's office and that allegations had been made against Myanmar. The Deputy Minister categorically denied the allegations and stated that since Myanmar and Indonesia are very friendly countries, there exist no reason to undertake such activity: that Myanmar does not engage in such activities against any Embassy in Myanmar: and that the false allegations were made to discredit Myanmar in the international community as well as to harm the existing close friendship between the two countries. The Deputy Minister expressed his hope that the Indonesian Government would take the necessary steps to dispel the false media reports.
